Welcome to the Culture Club of La Comuna Cafe and Apartments
We are all about community, we are inclusive, not exclusive and thrive to bring the best of what we offer to share with our community. Thank you for being one of us...
Who we are…
La Comuna cafe was founded by Emma Snowsill and Jan Frodeno who wanted to encapsulate the intermingled communities they witnessed circumnavigating the historical town of Girona. Known for the many world class cycling professionals calling it home, the rise of speciality coffee starting to brew in the old town thanks to La Fabrica. Plus the number one Michelin star restaurant; El Cellar de can Roca providing a culinary history that advocated many a reason for the active traveller having a desire to taste it for themselves. An aspiration to tie in what they believed the ultimate holiday destination could look like and provide, the intertwining of these communities, with an elevated Australian inclination, the idea was kindled.

The Community is exactly that, about giving a sense of identity to the cross sections of various people who call Girona home, either permanent, temporarily or visiting on that dream holiday for a ‘home away from home’ feeling. As we would like to say in Australia - “your local”.

Sip, stay, stretch, savour…
We are so much more than just a cafe, we know that a central meeting point is vital to create connection, though food and coffee is an important part of that equation.
Our offerings include two beautifully restored historic buildings making your decision to stay that little bit longer even easier. Our Residence located directly above the cafe will have you awakening to church bells and fresh coffee to prepare you for the adventures that await. Our City Oasis is located in a beautifully tucked away part of Old Town that has you feeling like you ‘live as local’. Both thoughtful considered for the active traveller, your home away from home in Girona awaits you.

Our stunning Yoga and Pilates Studio
Need some time to reset, retreat and renew? We also have you restorative time considered in our stunning studio space located behind the cafe. It’s not all adrenaline, endurance and adventure fueled in La Comuna, our Exhalar Studio run by another Australian, Kate has created the perfect pairing to our Yang output and helps restore the Yin. Whether it’s strengthen, lengthen, tone or just tune in, you can find our class schedule here.

FRODENO FUND
Our social project, started amid a world pandemic. A crazy idea to say the least, however the idea of completing a an Ironman triathlon ‘indoors’ seemed to be too self important given the world situation. So the idea to have it act as a foundraiser became the precipice for helping those more in need. Over the course of the indoor event, an astonishing €250,000 was raised and immediately funds were used to buy new ventilators at the local Josep Trueta hospital and support 3 local charities where food and basic needs were not being met during the very severe Spanish lock downs.
What later eventuated in the community, was what became the project Frodeno Fund. The idea kindled from a similar social project in Stellenbosch, South Africa and with the support of the Laureus Foundation, a world class pump track was laid out in the neighbouring town of Salt. The Pump Track now provides school lessons for the public schools of Salt with bikes provided by CANYON. Though most importantly a place of inclusivity and camaraderie among young children through the power of sport and sense of community.
We hope to have you onboard, join the ride, run or write your story about Girona. We believe life is here to experience the beautiful facets it presents it self with. So come write your own part of it or live it with us. Subscribe to keep up with our chapter.
